Grades 3 & 4

Grades 3 and 4 are often combination classes depending on the number of students within those grades. These grades have core and choice classes, and a teacher who is with the class throughout the day, along with the special subject teachers

The Core Subjects that all the students have together include:

  • Art
  • Handwork
  • Vocal Music
  • Games and Movement
  • Spanish
  • Cooking and Baking

The Choice Subjects that third and fourth graders may choose from are:

  • Orchestra –  violin, viola or cello
(parents are responsible for the rental or purchase of an instrument and method books)
  • Pentatonic Flute (school provides)

When students choose Orchestra, there are additional days set aside for HomeSchool students during the week where  Ms. Panning, the Orchestra Teacher, gives extra lessons at no charge. And, if the student is already skilled in playing a string instrument, they may join the orchestra with the full-time Mountain Phoenix students for additional orchestra classes.

Students may choose to play in band when they reach fifth grade.

Our music teacher, Ms. Kate, offers homeschool students private piano and voice lessons and group ukulele classes for a small fee. Lessons are held on campus.

Ms. Kate also directs the Mountain Phoenix Chorale a partner community choir with the Colorado Children’s Chorale (CCC). All homeschool students in grades 2-8 are welcome to participate in the chorale. Being part of the Mountain Phoenix Chorale provides students with the opportunity to perform at the CCC concerts and to audition for the CCC.
